As you walk through the entrance, your heart begins pounding vigorously and you begin to see flourishes of red and pink, blurring your vision. You are losing all sense of reality, and next thing you know, you trip over a naked baby poised to shoot you with an arrow. Suddenly…you realize. It’s Valentine’s Day.
Myriads of people, guys and gals, are humble procrastinators when it comes to making plans. But this is an important day where that trait should become recessive. If you’re out of ideas on how to woo that special someone this Valentine’s Day, look no further, your prayers have been answered.
A typical date goes a little something like this: usually, the gentleman picks up his lady and proceeds to the date which may consist of a dinner and a movie. Throughout the night, cookie- cutter gifts such as the standard box of chocolates and oversized teddy bear are exchanged. All in all, an enjoyable time.
But you’re looking to stand out in a crowd. One great tip on how to make an impact on your special someone is to be personal. Sometimes, “chocolates are essential,” explains married substitute teacher Adrian Gomez, “but make your gift personal by expressing your feelings in writing either through a letter or poem.”
All gifts aside, Valentine’s Day is primarily about the date. “Hanging out” at one of your houses is not a memorable date, it’s actually the opposite. “GUYS- don’t be lame, actually plan something and do something cool,” remarked Gomez when asked about what makes a date special and unique. Senior Gabby Lobe describes her perfect date as, “He’d ask me out in person and pick me up and we’d go to the Phoenix Art Museum and look around at all the exhibits and we’d get frozen yogurt afterwards before he drops me off. It’d be awesome.”
One couple, seniors Madi LaFleur and Zack Thomas, are veterans of spending Valentine’s Day with each other and usually go on casual dates such as a movie and a dinner, “We enjoy going to Native New Yorker or Applebees, we’re pretty laid back,” LaFleur commented, “but our gifts are definitely more sentimental compared to other holidays.”
It’s simple to charm your significant other through selecting more individual and intimate gifts rather than the casual roundabout presents. Keep in mind, roses are red, violets are blue, do something clever, and they’ll fall in love with you.
