Foo Fighters Release Live Album “01050525”

Grohl and Company are back with more from the band’s vault.

They’re back! If you don’t know who they are, it’s the Foo Fighters and they’ve brought a new live album to the table, after the chart-topping Concrete and Gold in 2017,  01050525 is a collection of live songs, demos, and B-sides; a lot like Incesticide. All the songs on the album are from the band’s “vault”, like the Disney vault but cooler in every way.

Featuring touring hits like Skin and Bones, and Demos for DOA and World, the whole album rocks. The reason? These more “raw” versions have an intense emotion to them. That was the whole point of the Foo Fighters really, an outlet for Grohl’s emotions after the tragic death of his close friend and bandmate Kurt Cobain. Since the bands inception in 1994, Grohl has created hit after hit, like the first album, Foo Fighters, and some that express himself with the band, like Wasting Light. This collection – in my most humble opinion- provides a sort of context to the band’s existence.

It’s got potential left and right, none of it are original per se, but they definitely feel different just in listening to them. The demo for DOA is very different from the fit and finish of the final product: the vocals are mixed less and the guitar is hard, that’s all I can say. I was first exposed to Foo Fighters with Radio hits like Learn to Fly and Everlong, never really breaching the surface until around last year when Wasting Light Popped up in my recommended music. I was hooked on the band’s catchy lyrics, the addictive guitar riffs and melodic heaven of Taylor Hawkins’ drums. All of those memories return each time I listen to a Foo Fighters album, it just feels right.

01050525 does just that, even though it’s not a full fledged album, it brings all the desired characteristics to the table, while still having a few rough edges. Final Opinion: not for everyone, but those who enjoy a good peek behind the gold curtain will see it as a 5/5.
