Skoollive is done at Perry?
SkoolLive was placed into Perry in 2017; however, it has not been as successful as planned. What the boards are, is they are those massive touch screen tablets that students pass everyday. Students seem to walk through the C and F building and do not even notice that there is a massive interactive screen right in front of them. SkoolLive’s purpose is to give information to students about all the events going on at the Perry High campus.
“Well there has been some changes in how they are doing things, so we are in talks with them right now, whether to see if we are going to continue” principal Dan Serrano explains. At the start of the 2019-2020 school year, SkoolLive will not be at Perry.
“It is not what we agreed for it to be. They want it to do more fundraising and more advertising so I’m just telling them to take them out because that’s not what we signed up for,” Lerina Johnson explains.
There was some hope that students would use the board and learn about all types of events going on. Unfortunately, students have been abusing the board by hitting the screens to hard and have been messing around with them, and both boards have been glitched out for a long period of time.
Senior Carol Li says, “I have never even touched it, I do not know what the purpose of these boards are. They have always been blank since the first day and never have information on them.”
Students are wondering how they are even supposed to use them, because with three thousand plus students on campus it is hard to access them. They also do not really interest the students.
“I do not think they do anything, they are always glitched, and they do not ever provide us with any information. Also students only have five minutes during passing period and there is not enough time to look at that and make it to class on time,” senior Madison Henson states.
SkoolLive was supposed to benefit students on campus. They were hoping that students could get information from the board, so they would not have to listen to the announcements. However, the boards are always blank and most students do not listen to the announcements, so many can not benefit from the purpose of SkoolLive.
Perry plans on adding their own version of Skoollive in the upcoming years. “I want to look into buying our own equipment and running our own digital signage so that we can keep everyone informed,” Johnson says.
