Boys Soccer Season Wrap-up
The boys soccer season officially came to an end as they lost their play-in game to Mesa with a score of 2-0, resulting in ending the team’s chance in a play-off position.
“I think the best way to describe [the season] is like being on a roller coaster,” stated varsity Head coach Brian Crayon. “We had some lows and some highs. I think it will take a little time but in the end I think we will look back and see it was a successful year.”
This is the second year in a row that the boys were unable to compete in play-offs based on their standing record for that season.
Although the season ultimately ended with no seat for play-offs, a highlight was the team’s 3-0 win against number one seeded Brophy on senior night.
“We lucked out with beating Brophy on our senior night,” junior Pearson Wallace said. “Overall the team chemistry was better than last year, which lead to an overall better season.
The team has always had luck when it comes to playing on senior night, as they have had a winning streak that started back in 2013 when the Pumas faced the Bears.
“It does help to be playing on senior night, all the guys are hyped up, the seniors are playing their best because it’s their last home game.” said senior Kane Hudson on the team’s continuous senior night winning streak.
Moving forward, the team hopes to just continue where they left off this year. Even though, the season ended with a record of 8-12-1, what made the team shine was ultimately the players on it.
“I think we really started to find our stride and play with a lot of confidence so we need to continue to do that from the start next season,” Crayon stated.
However, the team will be losing 11 seniors from the starting line up moving into next year but that doesn’t stray the confidence for a successful season in the upcoming year.
“I have been with the program for four years so this is my first true senior class,” Coach Crayon states in regards to the graduating players. “It’s been a fantastic ride with these guys and I wish them all the best in wherever and whatever they do.”
