As the 2024-2025 sports season approaches, the Sports Medicine team is beginning their preparations to ensure a safe and successful year for all athletes. The Sports Medicine students and staff are taking specific measures to enhance their readiness and effectively support their athletes.
Senior Addison Sroufe emphasizes the importance of being prepared to best aid the athletes this year. “I am most excited for the games together,” she shares, highlighting her enthusiasm for the upcoming sports events. Sroufe’s approach involves providing attention to all of the athletes at each game.
Allyson Romero, the Sports Medicine teacher, also expresses her joy for the new season. “I am excited for the games and to work with our teams,” she says. Romero jokes that her primary hope is for “no injuries and lots of wins,” showcasing her commitment to both the health and success of her athletes. To achieve this, Romero is helping her students focus on refining their taping techniques and first aid skills. Recently, the team participated in a “Field ER” event at Dignity Health, where they sharpened their abilities in handling heat-related illness and spinal boarding. This hands-on training is essential for preparing the team to manage real-life scenarios that may arise during the season.
Senior Dylan Widmann, President of Sports Medicine reflects on the thoroughness of their preparations. He explains that “we have Sports Med 101, which is an overview of the year”. This foundational course provides a comprehensive review of the protocols and producers that will guide the team through the season. Widmann notes the challenge of managing “so many sports at one time” but remains optimistic about the upcoming season. “I’m excited for the memories that we are going to make,” he adds, recognizing the unique experiences and bonding opportunities that come with the role. His confidence in the team’s capabilities is evident: “I think we have a really good team this year.”
As the season kicks off, the Sports Medicine team’s dedication to preparation is clear. With their focus on situational awareness, advanced first aid training, and thorough educational review, the team is well-equipped to handle the demands of a busy sports season. Their collective efforts ensure that athletes can compete safely and effectively to make for a successful year.
The Sports Medicine team’s preparations and enthusiasm for the season ahead reflect their commitment to both the health and success of the athletes. With their specialized training, extensive safety measures, and positive outlook, they are ready to navigate the challenges of the season and contribute to a memorable and successful year for all involved.
