The dance program recently organized a car wash fundraiser that highlighted the importance of community support for the arts. This event was not just about cleaning cars; it was a necessary initiative to ensure the continuation of the program’s high-quality performers. With limited funding from the district, the dance program heavily relies on the support and generosity of the community. Senior Gaby Fierro, a member of dance for 4 years, stated that “we chose to have a car wash because the fall concert is coming up and we need funding for lights, costumes, [and] tickets.” The dance department has many expenses associated with a concert that Fierro highlights.
Fundraisers like this also play a significant role in bringing the community together. According to junior Ashley Hess, a member of dance for 3 years, “a lot of people [came] to support,” demonstrating the deep connection and importance between the school and the community it serves. This collective effort does more than just raise money; it fosters a sense of unity.
The funds raised directly contribute to the dance program, covering costs that would otherwise be out of reach. Fine arts department chair and dance teacher, Fara Sadler, noted that “the money that we raised through the car wash helps fund a bunch of different things in the dance department.” She expressed excitement about the event’s success, proudly stating “We raised more money than we ever had before.” She was not sure what contributed to the increased involvement but was very happy with the outcome. Moreover, the car wash fundraiser shines a light on the broader importance of supporting the arts in schools. Sadler is a passionate advocate for the arts, believing that “those kids work their butts off and deserve the recognition.” Her words emphasize the role that art programs play in student development, offering them a platform to express themselves and achieve recognition for their hard work. The dance car wash was a significant event. As Sadler elaborated “[dance] is a pretty expensive venture” and that “there are so many ways [to support] dance.”
Not only was the event a success financially but also for what it represents-a community united and committed to nurturing the arts. By coming together to support the dance program, the students will have the resources they need to create and showcase their art, highlighting the value of the arts in education and the importance of collective effort in sustaining these programs.
