As the starting quarterback on varsity football, Junior Diesel Taylor has turned heads around campus. However, numerous students around campus may not know Taylor beyond this, as his athletic life started since he was a young child.
Playing multiple sports can help to enhance an athlete’s ability in all sports, not just the one that they end up playing the most. Ever since he was young, Taylor has been playing a variety of sports including football, basketball, and golf. Taylor states, “I’ve been playing basketball my whole life, but I started golfing like two years ago.” Sports have played an important role in Taylor’s life, with football being in particular, as he has been playing since, “as long as I could, since I was four years old.” Over ten years of work into the sport has gotten him to the starting position he is now in.
As time goes on, Taylor may continue to play other sports for the school, including basketball, which he has also played throughout his whole life. Taylor said, “I might join the school basketball team.” Taylor has only ever played football for the school, but that could change depending on whether or not he moves forward with the basketball team.
Playing a sport teaches one far more than simply playing the sport and becoming better at it, but it can also potentially teach one about life and oneself. This holds true for Taylor as not only has his journey through sports taught Taylor about athletics and the physical aspect of the games, but he has also learned about himself. Taylor elaborated on this, saying, “[Football] teaches you life, how to be a leader, how to make friends, and how to work as a team.” On the football field, all eleven players need to be on the same page, and building that level of team chemistry can take time.
Beyond just football, there are more sports played by Taylor, as well as a deeper understanding of sports that help him understand things about not only the game, but also life, and himself. As a junior that is starting on varsity, the lights will shine on Taylor for time to come.
