Lost star players, hope to have found new ones
Last year the boys’ golf team finished at their highest ranking in the history of the school; 4th in the state. However, as the new season pushes forward, the loss of three graduates is becoming apparent. Caden Christophersen, Connor Brown, and Ryan Macpherson; three of last years top golfers. “I think we’re losing some experience and some talented kids, but we’ve got some kids that are coming up that are looking forward to the challenge… I think if they step up, we can be just as good,” Coach Nold explains.
Despite the losses of last year’s three star players, new senior team captains TJ Sifferman and Tyler Macpherson (cousin of Ryan Macpherson) bring a great promise to this season. Last season senior Tyler Macpherson finished 71 in D1 state while TJ Sifferman finished at number 27 in D1 state. Both talented players have been working hard in the past year to bring even more glory to the boys golf team by practicing perpetually.
“We are expecting big things this year from TJ Sifferman and Tyler Macpherson…” head coach; Mark Nold, who has been coaching boys’ golf for three seasons, believes this upcoming year will be even better than the already phenomenal previous season. There are eight team members but only five will play per meet. The members who play each meet will be chosen carefully by Coach Nold.
Mark Nold claims that other than the three graduates, this season for the golf team will be successful with no weaknesses. Though many students around campus are not familiar with golf, there are a handful that are pumped for this season. Senior TJ Sifferman says “I am really excited for this season, and I think we will do really well!”
The boys on the team are all prepared to attack this season with full force. The Antigua gold invitational is coming up for the team on August 30th, and the pumas are expected to play well. They have already been to three tournaments prior, one of them being the Brophy Invitational. So far the team has done extremely well, and that will hopefully continue on throughout the season.
