Long football season affects winter sports teams
The Pumas are proud of how far they have made it in the football play offs and students are excited for the championship game, but has anyone ever thought of how this could affect some of the other winter sports teams? Wrestling, Boys basketball, and even girls soccer is falling short of some players due to the long football season
“We are still waiting for the guys from football to get out here so when they win the state championships, hopefully, they can get ready to play basketball and we [Varsity boys basketball] will be a much better team.” said boys basketball coach Sam Duane
Already having a young team it is crucial for the football players who are also on the basketball team, get ready fast and not fall behind after the championship game if they want to go far in the basketball season.
“I do get behind” said varsity wide receiver and quarterback D’shayne james, “ but I love basketball almost just as much as I love football and I think it’s a really fun game to play so i should pick it back up pretty quickly.”
The wrestling team is big but is still waiting for players from football to come join the team and help make this season the best yet.
“Wrestling isl always be in the back of my mind knowing that I need to get mentally tough for the season because it’s very taxing on your body.” said varsity strong safety Travis Calloway, “ but right now football is a bigger priority.”
Football is also affecting girls soccer as Trinity Kaufman is playing football with the boys before she heads over to playing soccer with the girls.
“In the middle of the football season I am in club soccer season so during this time i do think about soccer” said Kaufman “but during practice and games my only focus is on my brothers and the state championships.”
Although some of the winter sports teams may be missing some players, they are still rooting for the pumas to beat the wolves for the title of state champions.

Great article however what must be understood is that athletes or what Perry High School is all about not just being able to play one individual sport I like that Perry continues to support having multi athletes in their program it’s better for sports and is better for the future of the athlete again thank you for the article
