Softball beats Hamilton in walk-off home run; JV/FROSH baseball also walk-off wins

The junior varsity baseball team celebrates its 15-14 walk-off win over Hamilton on Mar. 30. This win came just minutes after the freshmen team and the varsity softball team walked-off wins over the Huskies as well.

There was a lot of celebrating on the campus of Perry High School Thursday afternoon. For the first time in school history, not one, not two, but three games ended via walk-off hits and Puma victories.

The softball team won a true showdown against the 2016 state champion Hamilton Huskies with a walk-off home run by junior Piper Lujan bringing the final score to 10-9. The Pumas had to chip away and at one point were down 9-5.

Perry’s batting secured their win, with four additional home runs by sophomore Chloe Krason, junior Jordan Pierson, and seniors Brytnie Carrasco and Chandler Walter. Lujan now has 12 home runs, the highest amount on the roster.

“We’re an extremely good hitting team,” said Coach Robert Hehe, noting that he believed his team was never out of the contest.

Early home runs helped the confidence of the team, including Carrasco’s three-run homer. Batting alone was not the sole factor in the win though, with a Puma fielding average of .879 helping to combat Hamilton’s 12 hits.

Also winning in walk-off thrillers were the JV and freshmen baseball teams, with Kasin Alexander and Zach DeHondol at bat respectively. JV ended with a 15-14 win, and the freshmen with 12-11.
