Kyle Vance (12) prepares to return a serve on the tennis courts at Perry High School during practice on February 18,2016.

Boys:

As this season comes to an end, Perry Boys tennis begins to look into the upcoming rounds of playoffs.

Brennan Sciascia and Kyle Vance, Perry’s number one doubles team, have high hopes for finishing off this season. The two have had a very successful season, both as a duo, and individually.

Senior Kyle Vance explains, “It’s best year so far but also our hardest schedule.” The Pumas have faced off some of the highest ranked teams in Arizona, and also, some of the lowest. “We’ve also played a lot of easy teams which was kind of a confidence booster,” says Vance.

Senior Brennan Sciascia is pleased with the season, “we’ve been the best team in the past four years.” Sciascia has hopes that the Pumas will place higher than they did last year, and hopefully make it past round one of playoffs.

“Last season we were in last place” Sciascia says, “but it was the first time in Perry history that tennis made division 1 playoffs.”

With the season finishing off, Lennox hopes to “finish with a high enough ranking to qualify for team state. That might mean that we have to win 4 or 5 of the last 6 matches.” However, with last season’s experience and this seasons strong team, the Pumas hope to finish off the season with success.

Girls:

With tennis season coming to an end, girls tennis has had an interesting season, not only for the team, but for all the players.

Senior Allie Shibel, who was expected to have a very successful season, has not been able to play due to a car accident at the beginning of the season. However, Shibel is impressed with the improvements she has seen in her team this season: “Overall they have become more consistent in how they play.”

Head Coach Keith Castillo is pleased with how the season is going, regardless of any obstacles so far: “The season has been going pretty well. We have a very tough schedule so our win/loss record is not a good reflection of our team and our progression.”

Castillo hopes to “continue to work hard and improve. Hopefully win another match or two.”
