Track breaks record and goes to state championship
Boys’ track had a successful season which flew by with help from star athletes. Sophomore Cade Burks broke two school records and senior Jackson Spilsbury almost broke a record in the 400 meter with a time under 50 seconds.
At the state championship, Burks placed 2nd in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54 and placed 10th in the 2 mile with a time of 9.50. The boys 4×800-meter relay team placed 10th with a time of 8:19.
Spilsbury competed in the 400-meter run and placed 4th with a time of 49.65. Senior Terren Blanchard placed 9th in the 100-meter run. The boys 4×100 relay team placed 2nd with a time of 42.16.
At the Southwest Valley Championship, the boys had a great performance. Blanchard placed third in the 100-meter with a time of 11.01 and his 4×100 relay team placed 2nd with 42.81 seconds.
Senior Tanner Brown who placed 3rd in his group in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:58.
The boy’s track team this year made some good memories and record-breaking performances.
Girls’ track had a strong team of field events athletes. Four girls qualified to go to state and competed in multiple field events.
In pole vault, Haileigh Fritts received a personal record with 10’6 placing 12th overall. Junior Angeline Prakelt placed 21st with a 9’6. In shot put, junior Jenna Reynolds placed 21st with a throw of 30’6.
Senior Alana Fallon competed in the triple jump and placed 16th overall with a jump of 33’6.
At the Southwest Valley Championship, the girls distance runners had a great success.The 4×800 relay team placed 3rd with a time of 10.32.
Senior Alyssia Gonzales placed 2nd in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.96 seconds and then in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.62 seconds placing third.
Gabby Ybarra placed 10th in the 3200-meter with a time of 12:13. In the 1600-meter Arielle Rosenblum placed 4th in her group with 6:04.
Also, at the meet Reynolds threw a 32’5 in shot put placing fourth overall. The girl’s track team had another great season with surprising performances with exceptional athletes.
