This past year’s athletic season proved to be one of the best, with multiple sports achieving triumph. Girls sports such as volleyball, soccer, and softball all advanced into the postseason, while boys volleyball, basketball, and baseball also accomplished the same accolade.

Each successful team had its fair share of vital assets that helped lead their team to victory; many of them signing National Letters of Intent (NLI’s). These NLI’s helped athletes secure a college scholarship and put them in an elite class that Dan Serrano calls “the best Perry’s ever had.”

In all, 20 Perry athletes signed NLI’s, ranging from Division I schools to community colleges. For girl’s sports, basketball forward Rachel Amerine is attending California State University at Monterey Bay. Soccer player Briana Destefano is attending the University of Jamestown and softball player Laynee Gomez is playing at GCU.

Basketball player, Jordan Howard, who set the scoring record at Perry, signed on to play basketball at the University of Central Arkansas. Lineman Chandon Harring is going to Brigham Young University while tight end Lane Veach earned a scholarship to Stanford.

Other notable male athletes include baseball player Joey Bostaph to Point Loma, football player  Austin Pauley to the University of Ohio, golfer Mike McGilton to New Mexico St., and  wrestler Aaron Ratliff to Buena Vista University.

Female athletes also included soccer player Ansley Warner to BYU at Hawaii, volleyball player Bobby Sczruba to the University of Texas at Permian Basin and softball player Brittany Hopper to Phoenix College.
