Boys and girls tennis finish with productive seasons
The 2014 boys and girls tennis seasons are in the books. Both teams had a solid year, proving tough enough to compete with the best teams. The boy’s team was led by junior Austin Stradling and junior Samuel Lin while the girls were led by junior Taylor Shin and sophomore Allie Schibel.
The boys ended the year ranked No. 17 in the AIA Power Rankings.Their best finish was at the East Valley Tennis Tournament where they placed second. As for the State Tournament, the team had sophomore Kyle Vance and sophomore Jordan Yeager compete in doubles. They won their first round match against Dobson, but lost in the second round to Highland. Stradling also competed at State in singles, but lost his first round match.
The girls had a final ranking of No. 24. In the State Tournament, sophomores Laike Reader and Audrey West competed in doubles and won their first round match against Sunnyslope, but lost in the second round to Centennial. As for singles, Shibel participated for PHS at State, but lost in the first round.
Both the boys and girls teams had productive seasons. Going into next year, both squads will be contenders with young and experienced players returning to the teams.
