Our Take- Sochi Hockey 2014
The United States had a fair showing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The U.S. collected a total of 28 medals. The most anticipated event this year for the U.S. was men’s hockey. After being defeated by Canada in the 2010 gold medal game, the U.S. team wanted gold.
In the preliminary round, the men beat Russia in a shootout, which perhaps caused the team to slip away the rest of the tournament. The men eventually made it to the semifinals, but lost 1-0 to Canada.
If that was not depressing enough, the team eventually lost 5-0 in an uninspiring bronze medal game against Finland.
Even though they are coming home empty handed, the U.S. men should feel some gratitude for shattering Russia’s dream of winning gold in their own country.
