Softball team reloads in ’14

The softball team has their sights on another winning season and hopes to improve on the 25-8 record from last season. However, the team will have a minor setback due to the loss of key players like Jilian Leslie and Madi Gloss.

Head coach Kevin Chapin expects the team to play hard.

“When you lose someone [Jilian] that does so much, the tendency is for everyone to think that we aren’t going to be as good,” Chapin said. “I want us to play beyond our expectations of ourselves.”

According to Chapin, the team will rely on verbal leaders Lindsay Heffron and Sabrina Nieto this season. Other than Heffron and Nieto, the team will rely on other leader as well. “I have players like Lanney [Gomez] and Brittany Hopper who lead by the way they play,” Chapin said.

Players like Gomez are looking forward to a tremendous season. “We have to play like last year and score many runs [for a great season],” Gomez said.
