Night of Knights Game
Calling all kings, queens and football players, the homecoming game is right around the corner. In fact, it is this week! The Puma football team will take on Gilbert High School this Friday night at home in the annual homecoming game.
The Pumas have been on a losing track lately. They have dropped their last five games to some tough opponents such as city rivals Chandler and Basha. “We haven’t put together a full game,” quarterback Alec Monte stated for why they have been losing.
Monte took over at quarterback for Austin Nightingale after he went down with a torn ACL. The team will be looking forward to getting a much needed win against Gilbert to boost their confidence.
“We need to get excited for this game,” Monte states. “We will win with teamwork”.
Excitement, teamwork and playing a full game are the key ingredients for the homecoming game. With all of these combined, the Pumas could jump off the losing train and go back to their winning ways.
On a side note, senior tight end Jesse Church has been nominated for senior homecoming king. “I knew I was being nominated,” Church says. “A bunch of people had nominated me.”
To most, a homecoming game would mean more than just a game. However, to Church it’s not. “It’s just another game, but it’s [also] pride for your school,” Church explains.
Despite having multiple injuries this season, the team has been persevering through them. The players, coaches and fans will put this entire setback behind them this week. This homecoming game will be an exciting one at its finest. Come out and cheer the Pumas on this Friday night at 7 p.m. at the thrilling Night of Knights homecoming game.
