Wanting to become more involved, senior Alyssa Yanish joined track her sophomore year. Since then, she has been a key player for the Pumas.
Yanish, a well-rounded runner, participates in the 100 meter, the 200 meter, and is a member of the 4×100 meter team, along with long jump and pole vault.
“My favorite is the 4×100,” Yanish stated after a slight pause.
It’s hard to choose a favorite event when it comes to track. They all have their perks and appeal to people in different ways.
Her coaches are very proud of her accomplishments.
Pole vault coach Megan Freemole lit up when talking about Yanish. “She is an incredible athlete. She is successful in everything that she does and really doesn’t matter what event or sports he tries,” Freemole said. “She’s a hard worker and when it comes down to it, she is successful.” Her diligence is exhibited by her all her achievements on and off the track.
Freemole continued on the say, “She hardly even practices with me very much since she’s a sprinter but yet she still manages to win or get top three in just about every meet we’ve competed in this year.”
During the initial weeks of the track season, Yanish was recovering from an injury. “It just wasn’t right when she wasn’t there,” team manager Londyn Brickous said.
Yanish’s favorite part of track is the bond created that makes the team a family. By the end of the season, her vision is to have everyone improve their times, grow closer, and have fun.
