With both boys and girls tennis season coming to a start, they are hoping to come out strong. With their first few games against Mesquite, Desert Ridge and Basha, they are working hard to come out on top with wins against all three schools.
Girls coach Keith Castillo is excited about the new season saying, “We have a new set of seniors, we have more upperclassmen this year than we have in previous years and some really good up and coming freshman and sophomores.”
They are also participating in the East Valley Invite, which they won last year.
“Last year we won, and we are in a pretty good pool and we expect to do really well again,” Castillo said.
Boys coach Angela Gardner, who has been the head coach for four years, is also excited about the season. The boys finished last year with a varsity record of 8-6 and a JV record of 11-3 and they expect to do even better this season.
There are four returning varsity players, and five returning JV players who will make up most of the team this year. Some of the top returning players, Austin Stradling, Samuel Lin, and Nick Copic are expected to lead the team to victory this year.
After losing their top three varsity players, Josiah Smith, Sean Kang, and Xavier Ortiz, the boys are going to have to work even harder to step up and take their places.
Both boys and girls have their game against Hamilton (who are in the conference’s top 5 teams) on March 5th, and they have been hard at work in practice, hoping to come out victorious. The team is dedicated, hard-working and they expect to do well this season.
With a whole new team, they hope to come out successful this season and work even harder than last year.
