Perry takes great pride in all aspects of the school. Academics, art, extracurricular, and sports included. All of Perry’s sports team have put in a tremendous effort but, sometimes effort just doesn’t take the cake.
“I think we’ve definitely improved. On Friday the last game, I was really proud of the team.” Junior Rachel Amerine comments on her team.
With a still record of 8-18 the Lady Pumas basketball team put their heart and effort on the court. However, on the last match of the 2012-2013 season, against Skyline High School, the pumas pulled out a win. A great feat on girls basketball Senior Night, honoring the solo senior Jenna O’Dell.
“I love Jenna (O’Dell), but I think it’s nice that we’re only losing one senior this year.” Amerine states. The hope for next year is that the returning seniors will have one more year to work out the kinks and come back better than ever.
“I think it’s really sad that she (O’Dell) is leaving. She was big part of our team and she taught a lot to all of us.” Sophomore, Tasia Teague recounts on the loss of O’Dell.
The final score on Senior Night was 65-48 Lady pumas in the lead. The girls can say they walked away with everything left on the court and the fact they respected O’Dell with a win on her last high school game. The girls also had wins over Desert Ridge, Browne, Basha, San Luis, Shadow Mountain, and La Joya Community during this years winter season.
“I think we kind of came out with a rough start, but we came back during the middle and I also think we found some things we need to work on.” Teague, states.
When asked about the things the team needs to work on, Teague did not pause in responding “We as a team, need to work on coming out (into a game) mentally prepared. And physically ready to put in one hundred percent effort.”
The Girls Basketball team is ready to reflect and make the necessary changes needed for next year. The Lady Pumas goal for next year is to not only take the cake, but eat it too.
