This season’s lady Puma basketball team is ready to take the season by storm. With a group of girls that have been playing together for two years, they are very comfortable with each other.
“We’re all pretty close,” Eryn Ruiz, returning varsity player, states. The team has had a lot of time to get to know one another including summer workouts last season as a teammates and now as returning players.
“All the girls are a lot more into it (playing aggressively); we act more as a team rather than individual talents,” Caylah Morrow also comments on the fluidity of the lady basketball players.
“We bond pretty well. There’s no drama this year,” senior Jenna O’Dell mentions.
Aside from their everyday warm-ups and moment of silence for coaches on game days, the girls don’t really have any bonding traditions.
“We’re trying to come up with one, but nothing yet,” Ruiz says. The girls have had enough time to bond and get to know one another, but now is the time to put their combined skills and personalities into action. The girls all look ready for a fight against Basha High School again this year.
“I’m looking forward to playing Basha. Last year it was just really nasty playing with them, and both of us are probably getting ready to play again,” Morrow says, hyped up for the big upcoming game. However the girls are at a slight disadvantage.
“We have a small team with in height; we just have to be aggressive,” Ruiz explains. With the loss of their Posts-taller players on the team- our Lady Basketball players now have to gain their inches in their hops and leaps, to match the taller size competition. Height wise, the team is equipped with guards, so they really have to put the effort in and beat their size disadvantages.
The Lady Pumas have been fighting this season with 4 wins and 7 losses, but they are looking forward to the upcoming games against Basha and Hamilton. Above all the girls want to have a positive outcome this season.
