The new basketball coach, Joe Babinski, has been coaching for 40 years. He coached in Oklahoma for 32 years and in Arizona for seven. Babinski was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona and went to Palo Verde high school. He played college basketball for two years at Arizona Western Junior College and then went to Oklahoma and played basketball for two more years.
Babinski coached at Desert Edge High School, winning the state championship in 2007-2008. “The victory itself is really good,” Babinski said, “but when you reflect back on it and see your kids worked hard and everybody put in the effort it really makes it a good feeling…it’s pretty rewarding.”
Babinski hopes to lead the Pumas to victory this season. He wants to get the boys playing his style of basketball, saying, “I want our kids to play the aggressive man-to-man. Running the ball and playing together is the main focus.”
