Delving into the new season, the varsity football squad was ready to prove themselves. They headed into their first two away games against fairly easy teams and picked up a pair of wins. Their third game of the season was where they faced adversity. The Pumas battled a tough opponent in the Queen Creek Bulldogs. Seeking redemption from last year’s overtime thriller, they were given a challenge that went down to the wire.
Pre-game, senior running back, Reggie Blader commented, “It was nice seeing the crowd coming out to support the first home game of our senior year.”
Unfortunately, the same result held up. All three Puma teams lost to Queen Creek that week.
“It was unfortunate that we couldn’t get the win, but we played hard and appreciate the cheering fans,” said senior wide receiver, Mikey Aguirre.
With varsity, attaining their first loss of the season, they had much to prove against the Marcos de Niza Padres, who were next on the schedule. Making the trip to Tempe, the team had one thing on their minds; the embarrassing loss that the Padres handed them the past season. The Pumas knew they had to leave their mark early.
The Padres left the Pumas in the dust yet again. While the undefeated (4-0) MDN team game plans for their next opponent, they leave the Pumas with an even more tarnished record that now sits at .500 (2-2).
The Pumas now must trek four hours to Yuma with hope of bouncing back and returning their record to its former winning glory. Facing off against Gila Ridge will not be an easy task. All teams on the schedule are formidable opponents. Any relaxed moods or lazy efforts, could cause a would-be win to immediately turn South.
