After the first few weeks of high school students begin to realize that it is not the “High School Musical” they watched as a kid. However the four years of life that is spent in high school can be filled with positive memories.

The outcome of high school correlates to the effort put in by the students to fulfill their expectations. “I wish I knew to not take things for granted,” said senior Taylor Vanberkel. Time flies by so every moment of high school should be cherished.

The first tip that helps students is participating in school events. Although some of these activites are seen as “cringy or lame,” they can be highly beneficial to starting high school off right. Coming into a big school can be intimidating but it is very easy to make friends.

Senior Carrington Little said, “Being in sports and clubs was the easiest way for me to make friends.” The school offers many clubs and sports. Due to the wide variety of options there are several choices for students to make to be surrounded by people with the same interests.

The dances around school are a big part of high school. These events are a way to be surrounded by classmates and just enjoy the parts of high school that do not consist of learning. Senior Chloe Washburn claimed, “I would have to say the dances have been my favorite. It is a good way for all of my friends to be together.” There is a dance every couple of months and the next dance is the welcome back dance on Aug. 13.

Most of the school events are planned by our student council. “Stugo has really helped me get involved around the school while being with my friends,” said Vanberkel. Whether it is planning the dances or the senior sunrise, StuGo gives up hours of their time to ensure students enjoy themselves while in high school but some things they do can be taken for granted.

To start off the year seniors attended a senior sunrise on the football field. They gather with friends on blankets and eat their breakfast while watching the sunrise. Senior Ashley Davis, “It was really fun because I was able to be with my friends and do our first senior thing.” Throughout the year there will be events planned for seniors to enjoy their last year of high school.

The main way to have a memorable high school experience is to participate in the events. The exciting Friday night football games and spirit weeks should be the memories that last forever. But these can only be happy memories if students choose to participate in them.

Although high school is not the expected experience, it truly is up to the students to make these years fun and memorable.
