Senior Michael Gerardi soars above his fellow cast in ‘Mary Poppins’

Theatre’s production of ‘Mary Poppins’ was a dazzling spectacle. With a grand set, bright costumes, and an exuberant cast, the stage was teeming with life and color.

Performing this production at a high school seems like an odd choice, as the show is tailored more towards children. However, it is a show that every age can appreciate.

The lead performers included seniors Hannah Kredit and Michael Gerardi, along with junior Emily Woodward-Shaw and her male counterpart Jackson Terry Clark, a middle school student.

These performers effectively immersed themselves in their characters and set a jubilant mood that carried throughout the entirety of the production. Clark specifically contributed to this atmosphere, adding a sweet authenticity to the show. His voice melded wonderfully with Woodward-Shaw’s, and they were very convincing in their roles as two privileged children.

Not only was the acting compelling, but the performers were also able to pull through the few microphone malfunctions to produce strong vocals.

Similarly, ensemble made for an entertaining background chorus. The members brought with them a great deal of chaos and excitement. It was hard to decide what to focus on as so much occurred within the numbers.

The dancing was a lovely effort, and it was clear a lot of time was spent on the merry choreography. There were times when the numbers became slightly scrambled, but that is to be expected with such a large amount of people on stage.

The show was both comical and touching, producing consistent laughter and the occasional awww moment. Heartwarming and laugh-provoking, theatre’s production of ‘Mary Poppins’ was one worth seeing.
