Teenage drivers are known for the loud music, the reckless driving, and careless decisions. Based off this, a high school parking lot seems like a nightmare come true. Now when that parking lot is over crowded, you can only imagine the problems that stem from it.

Security guard Kelly Pechloff explained, “Well it’s because of the number of students we have here on campus and we can only house so many vehicles.”

The lot has just over 800 spots while the school has approximately 3000 students. It’s obvious where the problem lies here. Students have been longing for more parking to be built in order to accommodate all the student drivers.

“We are in the process of hopefully securing some other land close to the school,” Pechloff trustingly said.

This would be a blessing to students who will be returning next school year. Students like Junior Katie Koski who drives herself to school everyday.

Though, Koski gives a different reasoning as to why the lot is over crowded. “I see dozens and dozens of parents in the parking lot before and after school dropping off their kids.” This is a reason no one speaks about and could be a cause to the problem.

A new parking lot would instill excitement for returning students. Koski expressed this feeling of excitement by saying, “There’s a possibility of getting in and out of the parking lot safely and in a reasonable time.”

Which is all students really want, to be able to drive through the parking lot without having to stop every minute and wait another five just to move again.

Senior Seau Nguyen knows this feeling all too well and shares the same feeling as every other student driver. Nguyen passionately said, “I think that it is definitely crammed and there should be expansion in the future because there will only be more growth.”

His habits have had to change ever since beginning to drive to school, “It forces me to leave my house earlier than 7 so I can get to my spot before class with time to spare.”

There’s no more avoiding this problem, the parking lot is way too crowded every morning and afternoon. The school needs to take action to expand the parking lot as soon as possible.
