iPhone 7 equals mediocre
Once again, Apple has created another technological advancement to its ever-so-popular iPhone. The iPhone 7 has come out along with its new update the iOS 10; in releasing it there has been a continuous amount of both positive and negative opinions surrounding these new updates.
But, my opinionated self has decided that everything Apple has released is just extra. Extra in the sense of unnecessary added message effects and the unnecessary change of emojis. Unnecessary to change the entire headphone system and missing jack to just break my bank.
Although the new iPhone model looks almost identical as the iPhone 6 and 6s it offers new advantages and improvements than the past models. The camera is notably better, the battery time was extended, the processor is faster, and lastly it is “water-resistant.” Water-resistant meaning that it can withstand a shallow dunking; so in no means take your new phone swimming with you and expect prime underwater pictures.
Along with the new upgrades in the phone Apple’s iOS software was upgraded as well. Yes, the update changed the entire emoji design and replaced the gun emoji with that of an unsatisfying water gun. But, the real tyranny here is the missing jack. I wished for multiple people Facetime calls and was granted a missing jack and an inefficient adapter.
The dilemma with the missing jack is the unnecessary step one has to go through in order to use mainstream headphones. Apple does provide headphones with the iPhone 7 purchase that are lighting compatible meaning they plug directly into your charger. Yet, if one wants to use regular headphones or hit the aux the adapter, which is referred to as the dongle, is necessary. Although do not worry Apple has come up with the most reasonable solution of the AirPods starting at a low price of 159 dollars.
These AirPods are wireless requiring no physical connection and work with bluetooth connecting to the IPhone. Only with the high price tag for just an adequate product; they are so easily lost and hideous. These things are just plain ugly. For this high price one might as well invest in Beats wireless headphones insuring they are good quality and range anywhere from 140 to 200 dollars.
When announcing the changes in the new iPhones, Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, stated that removing the headphone jack was an act of “courage.” Right then and there he made one of the largest over exaggerations of the year. Clearly, I do not fully understand Schiller’s definition of courage because removing the jack of an iPhone does not fall under that category.
With the 649 dollar beginning price tag, Apple has once again proven that it has the American people by its throat; meaning that anything the company releases will be purchased and make millions. It truly would take “courage” if Apple released a product living up to its hype or even the price tag.
