If Not Hamilton; Who?

The Treasury Department has announced that it intends redesign the $10 bill and substitute a portrait of a famous American woman for Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers. This action by the Treasury has caused an outrage among not only the people who loved the hit Broadway musical, but also among economist in Wall Street. Why Hamilton? The founding father who created the National Bank and is responsible for a centralized bank as well as the reason why the capital is Washington D.C., is being shredded off the 10 dollar bill. Then the question becomes if not Hamilton, then who?

The answer becomes easier than expected. I believe that a woman should be on the currency but instead of removing an economic genius, remove someone who hated paper currency and also was just a terrible person. This person was Andrew Jackson who currently occupies the spot of the 20 dollar bill. Unlike Hamilton, Jackson actually abolished the National Bank which lead to economic tragedy during his presidency and afterwards. Some people say that Jackson should only be on the 20 dollar bill to mock his spirit by being on paper money, contrary though, would the Treasury Department rather keep a joke up rather than an economic figure and founding father?

Also a better solution is removing Ulysses S. Grant. Think about it, Grant’s mediocre presidency is not what he is known for, but just because of his actions during the Civil War. This in the end had no significant connection or purpose to the National Bank or the Treasury.

In the end, removing Hamilton of the currency is ridiculous when there are better answers to the solution. Remove Jackson or Grant instead. Keep the economic genius and get rid of the two who should represent our currency.
