Educational Path Not Taken

Every single human being who has lived on this Earth had been objectified to what is known as “the path.” This path includes what many view it as a natural progression of life– birth, survival and death. However, the path is forever changing like a rushing river, and one that mainly view as the catalysts for the change in the straight stream is education. But like any change, they are complex phenomenon we create for ourselves.

But what really does education mean? Many say it is an ultimatum of success, and most see it as a key that will always open the golden gate encrusted with the pearls of happiness. Mankind has romanticized education as nothing more than the opportunity for the circle pegs to fit neatly into the circle holes. The moment a square peg comes around, what society defines as education transforms for them into another language they cannot decode.

Circle pegs like the average college student can follow the traditional education system without a flaw while the square pegs cannot learn from an eight hour school day but instead, like Malcolm X, credit their entire education to an institution other than a school– in Malcolm’s case prison.

A faulty correlation with success and education causes many to be discouraged about whether or not one can be satisfied without the track of education. Facebook, Google and Apple were all started by men who had limited higher level education. The multimillion dollar business of Facebook was started by the Harvard dropout Mark Zuckerberg.

Learning how to adjust and enhance the unique traits of each individual can impact one’s education forever. Some cannot simply regurgitate facts into the pores of a paper and seeing it only be digested as a subjective grade.

Just as Robert Frost advices in his poem, “The Road Not Taken,” we need to take the path that may not be trekked or is seen as taboo to see how our entire world may change. The doors will open and that — will make all the difference.
