Yates Hates: “Fun Friday” Songs
It’s Friday. Some students have hit the point of their week where all they can think about is going home to enjoy their short weekend.. As the bell rings to signify the start of the day, the announcements blare from the speaker. Being a Friday, the office decides it’s time to play their traditional “Fun Friday” song. Some students are expecting it to be disappointing.
The announcer quickly states that this song is a shoutout to one teacher from another. As they finish talking, an old style country song begins to play. No one understands why nor do they find this entertaining.
A factor that may make these songs “fun” is the cheesiness of them. Songs can also be a way to ease the tensions of having to take a test or give a presentation, or just to allow some to retain their mental sanity. The people who understand the inside jokes may find them hysterical.
Unfortunately, not everyone is going to like the Fun Friday song regardless of what it is going to be. However, when old songs that mostly nobody has heard are the only songs that are being played, then really it stops being fun and starts being a joke. The songs all seem to be little inside jokes between teachers that the students often don’t understand.
, not just a small group of people. Little inside jokes aren’t funny for the students and they won’t understand them. Once in a while is fine but when every week’s song is one of these cheesy jokes, it gets dull. Where is the fun in that?
