Staying up late and waking up before the crack of dawn is what some high school students do best, but it is not the best prescription for success.
Social media sites are becoming the sleep-deprivation culprit. Facebook is a site for teens to talk to friends and other people, as well as play games; Twitter is a site for teens to get the latest news from celebrities and share news themselves instantly; Tumblr is a site for teens to search goofy stuff that will make them laugh such as pictures and animations.
Teens are known for late nights, but many students are falling into the social media trap and technology vice.
Some stay up for purposes such as homework or spending time with family. However, the trend seems to be that students spend more and more time on social media.
I get upset when I see my peers spending so much time on these sites because they can never get their homework done, and I see them paying the consequences in school.
Some teens stay up on social media sites and are talking to their friends instead of having a good night’s rest, even if there is a big test coming up the next day.
Teens are notorious for staying up on school nights, which can greatly affect their grades.
Social media has “taken over our brains”! We even make pictures with captions that are true about the relationship between teens and social media.
We like those pictures because they are true to us and it almost encourages us to stay up more. These pictures are funny, I think, because they make it seem like if we do not go on these sites then we are not like everyone else.
When in reality, it is all a scam. It is just these sites way of promoting their business to get more money.
Social media is a way that allows teens to talk to each other more and it gives us a chance to be popular.
I believe this is why we are so addicted to these sites. Think about it. People all over the world will friend you or even follow you.
Once someone does that, you feel wanted. Whether you are popular or not already, it gives you that special feeling.
I am guilty as well to feeling happy when new people talk to me, but I know that they probably will not matter after high school, if not sooner.
Social media is also changing the way we act towards others. It could show things that can make people rethink their beliefs. This, however, could be a good thing or even bad.
Social media also gives teen a chance to talk to different people. These sites all contain cyber bullying and predators that lie to innocent kids.
I, personally, do not like these sites for these purposes. I see people that get depressed by these sites because they are sick with envy seeing others the way they want to be or for being made fun of by other people.
Twitter and Facebook and all those other sites are fun. I get it, but do not make those web sites your life or main priority.
