Once again this year’s senior class has pushed the boundaries; beginning with the revival of a banned group the Perry Pretties, to now the formation of yet another support-based group going by the name Perry Pretty Decents.

The Decents are a combination of a student section with a group of senior boys that are a spin-off of the Perry Pretties – a group of senior girls who support senior football players. The Decents aim to support the seniors of the girls’ basketball team.

“We kind of describe Perry Pretty Decents as kinda like a double-whammy,” senior Kane hudson said. “We’re supporting the girls’ basketball team while also making fun of a controversial group.”

Although it officially formed this year, the group originated last year when the two founders – Hudson and senior Mitchell Woodhurst – attended a girls basketball game on accident and in turn, enjoyed it so much that they formed a student section for the rest of the season.

“We found out that the girls basketball games were much more entertaining and fun to be at,” Hudson said. “We wanted to provide more support for the girls basketball team because we feel as though they are under-appreciated.”

And with that, the Perry Pretty Decents were born.

Senior Keaton Merrell, who coined the name Perry Pretty Decents, views the controversy around the Pretties as unwarranted and decided to take a comedic view on the idea.

“At the beginning of the year there was a lot of stigma around Perry Pretties, that it was like misogynistic and that women shouldn’t be doing things like that,” Merrell said. “We were like, ohh it would be funny to sort of put it in a different light.”

Although the name is poking fun at the Perry Pretties, the founders of the group want to stray from any backlash towards the group and draw focus towards the image of support both represent. In addition, the Decents welcome any senior into the group – male or female.

“Our views towards Perry Pretties aren’t bad in any sense,” Woodhurst stated, “we made it to be a counterpart to the Perry Pretties and not exactly make fun of it but play off their title.”

Hudson added: “We don’t necessarily prompt the image of the pretty, perfect, popular crowd. We are kinda a group of awkward guys, hence the ‘pretty decent.’ It really is just a fun organization that really discludes no one.”

Hudson, Woodhurst and the Decents will be leading the student section at the next home game, which is scheduled for Jan 13 against Basha.
