Subaru Superstar funds the Perry Robotics team with $1000
Subaru Superstar, the car company, has given the Perry Robotics Class/Club a $1000 grant.
The students wrote a letter to Subaru offering shout outs on social media and good Yelp reviews in return for support for their club and class. Since Subaru chose to support the Robotics team with $1000, the team decided that once they finish making the wooden cars that the students make for the F1 competition they will paint the cars in the Subaru colors, afterwards, the class will give the finished cars to the Subaru store for them to showcase.
The class will be starting the F1 competition, which is school-based, soon and they will be building racecars that they will race in Dec. Afterwards, in Jan., the students will then build a robot for the FRC competition.
“Our entrance fee alone for [the F1 competition] is $5000 and then we have to buy all the electronics, we have to buy the metal, and metal is not cheap,” Kinsey Welsh, the Robotics and AP Physics 1 and C teacher, said in response to the overall price for the competition. “[The price] totals up a lot very quickly.”
The money from the Subaru grant will go to buying uniforms, portfolios, and a pit display for the club which is currently situated in Ms. Welsh’s classroom. The students will show off all the work they have done after the competitions, which will be showcased in their pit display.
Every year, the class receives the Bowman Grant, which they are awarded for their hard work and good drive, which is approximately $3500. This money is used to build a robot which will be done in the second semester.
The Robotics team is looking forward to a great year and with the Subaru Superstar Grant of $1000 and the Bowan Grant of $3500, their success in the upcoming competitions will be inevitable.
