First annual winter dance joins winterfest
Bells ringing, choir singing, and a well anticipated winter dance just around the corner. StuGo is preparing for their first winter dance planned to take place this December. In honor of the 10th anniversary and the demand from the students and staff, this will be the first time Perry is hosting a winter dance. The event themed “A Starry Night” has a lot planned to make for a great night with friends or a date. It is a way for the students to get together to have a great time this holiday season.
“[It’s] a dance for students to get together before the holidays,” StuGo adviser Lerina Johnson said, “and start the season off to a great start with our Fine Arts Department and Winterfest.”
STUGO is teaming up with the Fine Arts Department to make their winterfest even better. Their intentions are to incorporate as much of the talent from student body as possible. The dance will include choir performances, food trucks, an art show, and a DJ. Although the dress is “classy casual,” but not formal, the dance itself will still have a feel of Homecoming.
“I like to think of this dance as being somewhere between the casual nature of Morp,” StuGo President Aaron Clouse said, “and the formality of Homecoming or Prom.”
While this is the first time doing a dance like this, it has its own unique characteristics that will make the night special. The students can still enjoy what the other dances have to offer, but without the formalities.
“I think this dance offers something unique,” Clouse said, “an opportunity to come dressed up a little more fancy than school without having to break the bank, and still have a professional DJ to really make the dance tight.”
Along with the attire and mood of the dance, the idea is to not have it specifically girls-ask-guys or vice versa.
“We also are letting students choose who they ask,” Vice President Beech Halladay said, “which we think is really unique.”
Perry is set to host the first Winter dance on Saturday, Dec. 3 beginning at 7 PM until 10 PM. Tickets go on sale for $10 with activity card, $12 without, and $15 at the door.
