Perry High School is recognized throughout the state not only for academics, but the theater company as well. Recently the theater company performed the significant play, “Footloose” for a total of five days. The costumes, characters, and energy wow’d the audience by a long-shot.
Not only was it a phenomenal play to watch, but it’s extra profits are being put aside to an important cause . The company needs to make exactly $30,000 to be able to attend nationals.
Teacher, Shawna Marquis said that if the opportunity arrives, they will be performing the “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” which was a huge hit earlier in the school year. Other students would also be performing one act monologues they’ve mastered. The play “Footloose” is a widely known play that showed the actors desire to act, sing, and dance. Sophomore Alexis Watson exclaimed, “My favorite part of the play was their energy, it gave the true experience”. For a high school play, it was very engaging to watch.
But, it wasn’t perfect, the singing was pitchy at times and people were a little hard to hear. The dancing was very energetic but, some moves were sloppy. But hey, this isn’t a dance team. Overall, with a few kinks, the performance was put on very professionally.
Perry has won many awards and nationals would be the the place to prove their talent to the nation.
Footloose is a magnificent production that is a must see, any extra bit of money that is not being used can go towards the kids living their dream. Not only does it allow people to have a swell time, but it creates a pathway to endless opportunities to watch Perry’s theater company grow.
