Students enjoying the music played at Morp

Friday February 26 marked the date for Perry’s Morp dance. The Hula-Hideaway themed dance featured all kinds of food trucks and activities including volleyball. About 700 students attended the dance, ranging all grade levels.

At the dance, one of the most popular attractions were hennas with a line that far surpassed all of the others. Food trucks ranged from hot cookies to burgers to Mexican food. These were major initiatives for students to attend who might otherwise might not want to.

Junior Melissa Teague explains, “This year’s Morp was awesome! I really loved the photo booth.” Although the theme was similar to last year’s, some students enjoyed this one more. “Last year there were only hennas” says Teague, “but they [StuGo] really stepped it up this year.”

The Hula-Hideaway theme lent itself to many fun activities, not only at Morp, but during spirit week. All week, a volleyball net was pitched up in the courtyard for students to play during lunches. The spunky spirit days had most students participating, especially in ‘What are those’ day in which students showed off their wackiest sandals.

What with last years excitement about the parachuters, many thought StuGo would not be able to top that at this year’s Morp assembly. However, they were proven wrong. Traditional Hawaiian fire dancers amazed students with all kinds of crowd-thrilling tricks from fire eating to death-defying pyramids.

StuGo was extremely pleased with the dances high attendance: “This week alone, we sold about 500 tickets,” says Junior StuGo member Lauren Stebbings.  With an entrance line trailing out into the street, this year’s Morp was a definite success.

“It went a lot better than I expected,” says student body president Olivia Thompson, “the turnout was really great.” With about 500 presales, and 200 tickets sold at the door, the dance really was a hit.
