Anticipation for MORP at an all time high

Last year the theme was Coachella, but this year welcomes something just as exciting and packed with festivity. “Hula Hideaway”, a Hawaiian luau themed night where students are encouraged to let go and have fun with the company of music and food, is the move for this year’s MORP school dance. Packed with the delicious company of a hot cookie truck, a refreshing soda shop, and a free henna station, the Hawaiian vibes and excitement for the new year’s MORP could not be higher.

Recovering from the complete omission of MORP in 2014 following 2013’s “Barefoot Bluejean Night”, STUGO officer and sophomore Jackie Gilbert added that she is, “super excited. Last year, Coachella was a huge success, and had a great turnout for our school with people from other schools coming too, so I think the luau theme is going to be amazing.” However, with such a laid back, beachy feel that is paired with the new theme, violation of the dress code is a real possibility for students.

For men, it may be unusually short shorts that show maybe a little too much pale thigh; for women, the risk for a coconut top wardrobe malfunction is higher than the staff would like it to be. “It’s a very tricky thing to deal with,” principal Dan Serrano adds. “When you have dances like MORP, we still have to watch for dress code.” So, for both ladies and gentlemen, if you notice a slight breeze outside, don’t come to the dance wearing solely a poorly secured beach towel. We want beachy, but not that beachy.

MORPHowever, despite all the potential risks involved with any school dance, this year’s MORP is looking to be a truly relaxing, fun, and hyped-up dance all in one. “If Perry can pull it off and make it really great, we can do it,” encourages STUGO officer and junior Jackson Daniels. But, we can’t do it without the students themselves, so come out to “Hula Hideaways” on Feb 26 from 7-10pm to dance the night away on the beach. Admission is $6 with an activity card and $10 at the door.
