The recent production of Sister Act has left a lasting impression, showcasing their dedication to all the students involved. Directed by former theater teacher, James Fountain, the musical follows a woman who enters witness protection after witnessing her mafia boyfriend committing murder. She finds refuge in a convent, where she rediscovers herself as she forms a bond with the nuns.
Reflecting on the collaborative effort required to bring the show to life Fountain explained “It took a lot of people and a lot of work.” The production involved learning the choreography, and dialogue, and constructing the sets. “I really enjoyed seeing the pieces come together,” he added. Fountain chose Sister Act for its heavy female cast, recognizing the empowerment it offered to young actresses. He appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with the cast and crew, stating “It’s great to get to know everyone and work together on something everybody is excited about.”
Sophomore Allie Tam, who played one of the lead roles, shared her enthusiasm for the experience. “It was a heartfelt show, but it [was] also hilarious,” she noted. “I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity at such a young age.” Allie felt honored to continue a production that fostered friends and support among the cast.
One of the assistant stage managers, Junior James Thorpe, highlighted the importance of behind-the-scenes roles in theater. He noted, “We don’t get as much respect as the corps, and a lot of the work goes unseen.” His responsibilities involved ensuring everything ran smoothly during the performances. He elaborated on his role by saying “My job [was] to make sure things went on the stage when they were supposed to and off the stage when they were supposed to.” He emphasized the teamwork that was vital to the production’s success.
The recent production of Sister Act was a notable success, reflecting the hard work and dedication of all involved. It provided an opportunity for students to showcase their skills while fostering teamwork and collaboration.
