This school year has marked the launch of several new clubs, each with a distinct mission aimed at addressing important needs both within the school and in the community. These clubs are not merely extracurricular activities but represent platforms for meaningful community engagement, where students can make a difference.
Red Cross is one such initiative, as stated by the advisor, Alesandra Barth, the club’s mission is the “alleviation of human suffering,” a goal reflected in the club’s members. Barth elaborated on the club’s purpose stating “In short, we hope to volunteer and give a helping hand in any arenas that the Red Cross is asking young people to step up.” This club hopes to make an impact as they respond to crises that affect people worldwide.
Sophomore, Medha Sivakumar, co-president of the Red Cross club, highlighted the club’s specific focus on supporting “veterans and medical emergencies.” This cause is close to Medha’s heart, as she shared that both herself and her co-president “felt really passionate about it. We both have family members and relatives who have been veterans and have dealt with this kind of struggling.”
Coupled with the addition of the Red Cross is the introduction of Key Club. Their mission is to address the need for increased student volunteerism within the school.
Sophomore, Sahana Puri, co-president of Key Club, emphasized the benefits of the club, particularly in helping fulfill service requirements. “We need Key Club [as a way] to promote student volunteering and help students get community service hours,” Puri explained. Additionally, she mentioned that the club is “hoping to focus on doing tutoring over the summer,” an initiative that will provide valuable academic support to students while fostering a sense of community and peer assistance.
The new clubs, specifically the Red Cross and Key Club-are making a significant impact by addressing needs in the community and providing students with the opportunity to engage in meaningful service.
