Powerless never was so powerful

There is power and strength inside every person. For some it is deeper than others, but it is always there, just waiting to break free.

Powerless, published in June 2015 and written by Tera Lynn Childs and Tracy Deebs, follows a teenage girl named Kenna. She lives with her mom in the center of the superhero world. The only problem is that Kenna is unlike everyone she has ever known: she is powerless. She works in a top-secret lab for her mom while on the side does her own experiments hoping to find a solution to her lack of powers.

Her hope is dashed to pieces when three villains break in searching for their friend who had been kidnapped by the heroes. One of the villains, Draven, can erase someone’s memory and replace it, but is unsuccessful with Kenna. Kenna receives secret immunity shots every week that protect her from superheroes powers, but her mom will not tell her how it is made, preventing her from replicating it. Draven, oblivious to her immunity, ties her to a sink.

After the super-police arrives, Kenna tells her mom everything, but due to the secrecy of her immunity shots tells the police Draven mock story. The Super-President adds cameras and other new security measures due to the break in, preventing Kenna from snooping.

Kenna also tells her best friend, Rebel, every detail of that night while at her house for the day to sleep off the drama. She wakes up to Rebel kissing a boy she has never met on the balcony. Rebel begins to tell her the story, but it distorts every truth Kenna has known.

That night Kenna returns home to her mom stumbling up the stairs to rest after telling Kenna she could not return to the lab and cut up her badge. Kenna takes her chance and returns anyways with her mom’s badge. She discovers reality that breaks her faith in the whole superhero world, but she can not do anything as a powerless ordinary in a superhero extraordinary world.
