As the gamers of this school roam the campus, their minds are already filling up with thoughts of the upcoming video game releases, as well as the recent releases they haven’t gotten to playing yet.

One video game expected to be a big hit is Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, set to release later this year on Oct. 14. Junior Tanner Lisonbee expresses his interest by stating, “[It] looks cool; it looks pretty fun.”

This first person shooter takes place between the first and second games of the series, in order to add to the stories of various non-playable characters featured in the previous games. The developers, 2k Australia and Gearbox Software, have introduced new mechanics to add to the realism of the fictional universe.

Junior Maurice Ajluni is eager to get his hands on Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth. “It allows you to explore different civilizations throughout space and conquer them,” he states, “and [it] has unique challenges within that.”

With it’s release coming up quickly on Oct. 24, fans of the Sid Meier’s Civilization series on Microsoft Windows are awaiting this next addition. This turn-based game, developed by Firaxis Games, is unique to the series as it is based in the future, whereas the majority were based in the past.

A recently released game also caught the eye of junior Jordyn Deel. Murdered: Soul Suspect, developed by Airtight Games, was released on June 3.

“What first pulled me in was the title, considering I’ve always found a liking to [shows and books] on murder cases and paranormal things,” Deel shares. The action-adventure and stealth game follows the apparition of a deceased detective, murdered by the serial killer he was working to stop. As the plot thickens, more and more obstacles come into the path of the detective investigating his own murder so that he can break his ties with the living world once and for all.

Deel shares her views on the current state of the video gaming world by stating, “with the higher and more advanced technology we have, I think this year’s gaming industry looks immensely promising.” With video games becoming more and more detailed and realistic, gamers all around are looking forward with a great sense of hope for what is to come.
