Young writers take a hand at self publication of novels
Writing is not only an easy form of entertainment; but it is a way to create a new imaginative world the writer has invented. Young writers have become more common in this day and age. Books written by the younger generation bring new perspectives such as a certain form of depth or voice that many older writers cannot reach. Author Randi Ryan gives words of wisdom in her statement “People say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a book is worth 50,000 at least.” Getting started in the book publishing business is risky and at times is very time consuming. That is why most authors today publish their stories as e-books. E-Books are an electronic version of a printed book. Otherwise, authors choose to place their stories on online websites such as Wattpad.
Ryan has been through the tough process of publishing her book(s). Ryan has already published a trilogy The Crescent using the online site Createspace. The final book of the trilogy Ryan said is to be released in May 2014.This site helps authors publish their stories into e-book(s).
Self-publishing allows the writer to have more rights over the final product than selling it to the publishers. According to creative writing teacher Susan Halberg, “Self-publishing is a lot of extra work for the student to self-publish, because they have to do their own publicity and be really motivated to spread the word”. Ryan agrees with the statement that, “self-publishing is a way for someone to say I want [it] this way and my way.” She adds the comment that, “You need to be really really motivated, [to advertise yourself].”
“Most young writers write for passion, writers write because they want to not because they have too,” said Ryan.
Many young authors do not get themselves recognized right away, but these sites provide a way for these authors to improve and possibly have their own novels on display in bookstores in the near future.
