Theatre taking it to state again
Perry’s APAC class is going to the State One-Act festival again, following last year’s first place win at the same competition.
This year’s entry is a musical, which separates it from the other student-led productions that often compete at State. The show is a condensed version of the Broadway hit ‘Title of Show’, and at the regional CAAF theatre competition, Perry’s production walked away with three out of three Superior scores, the highest rating possible.
‘Title of Show’ is also unique in the way that the cast is comprised of only four students: Alli Messersmith, Kate Brandt, Blake Miller and Lester Nnagbo. The show’s tech crew is also made up of mostly Stagecraft students.
One-Acts can also be different for student casts, who are used to performing for smaller amounts of time for individual events during competition.
“[Doing a One-Act] is definitely more stressful, since you’re performing for a longer time than you would during an IE [Individual Event],” Messersmith said, who is a junior.
“You have to put more time in, since it’s a full production,” Brandt remarked.
Even though putting on a show can be tough, the student actors are still ready to compete against many other student productions at State.
Brandt said, “We’ve improved a lot from [the first State competition] to CAAF, and we are ready to do our best.”
