Fashion teacher Kristen Pearson has assigned her 3rd year students to a Wardrobe Strategies final project. The purpose of this project is to assemble a style portfolio for each of their clients. The teachers would be the ideal client for these students.
In order to create these portfolios, the students need to meet with the client and determine several things. The client’s body type, the colors that suit them and what type of clothing pertains to their lifestyle are all important.
“When doing this project, the students are going to learn about the many different complexions people have,” Pearson said. Students will also learn about what colors will look good on their client, different body types, and how to create illusions. If someone is heavier around their hips, the students will discover different ways to make them look slimmer. If the client has a linear figure, the students will assemble an outfit that accentuates their curves.
Last year, paraprofessional, Marilyn Hamilton had the opportunity to be styled by the fashion students. “I moved to Arizona from Ohio and they created a portfolio for me that helped me adjust to the new temperature,” Hamilton said. After the portfolio was finished, she bought two of the outfits they had put together. This year, three of Pearson’s juniors will be styling English teacher Beth Herbert; one of Pearson’s seniors will be styling math teacher Jennifer Dominguez. As well as creating these portfolios, they hope to spend about $50 that they raised to purchase an actual outfit from the lookbook for each teacher.
