Justin Timberlake, in collaboration with Timbaland, released “The 20/20 Experience” on Mar. 15, 2013, his third album (the first in seven years). Prior to the album’s debut, he released two singles, “Suit & Tie” (Jan. 15, 2013), and “Mirrors” (Feb. 11, 2013).
The two songs excited his original audience and hyped up a whole new audience, especially after Timberlake performed an unreleased song “Pusher Love Girl”, at the 2013 Grammy Awards with Jay-Z.
Timberlake’s 10 track album includes many different styles of soulful and catchy music. All of the tracks range from 5 to 8 minutes, making the album a total of about 70 minutes; if you have the Target version, with two additional songs, the total running time is about 80 minutes.
“Pusher Love Girl” is the first song on the album and one of my personal favorites. The mid-song transition is smooth and by the end, it seems like a new song. It was one of the most anticipated and talked about songs of the album since its debut in February; its name had been seen scattered throughout social networking sites.
In “Spaceship Coupe”, Timberlake shows off his high vocals throughout the track. There is a definite ‘galactic’ feel to the tune. However, it does remind me of a generic Prince track. While it is nice and smooth like the rest of the album, it is not one of my personal favorites.
“That Girl” features Timberlakes band, The Tennessee Kids. This is one of few songs on the album that does not have any computer generated backtracks. Because of the way the song is set up, it gives the feel of watching Timberlake in his suit and tie on a black and white television set.
“Blue Ocean Floor” is the last track on the album and was very intriguing, and even calm the first time I heard it. After the initial reaction, the song gives an eerie mood; the backtrack is in reverse and there is a woman’s voice in the background.
Overall, judging by the ten original tracks, it would be worth the $13.99 price tag to purchase the Target exclusive with the two extra songs.
