Actor Dwayne Johnson makes a comeback to theaters with his latest film “Snitch.” Johnson stars as John Matthews, the father of a teenager who is wrongfully imprisoned for distributing drugs. Based on true events, the engaging plot will keep you entertained.
The movie opens in a living room where the son of Johnson’s character is chatting with a friend who wants him to bring a package of drugs to a massive party. The son, Jason, rejects his offer. Moments later a package containing ecstasy and a GPS arrives at the house and to no one’s surprise, it was a trap set up by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Jason sprints away from his house, not helping show his innocence. After the arrest of Jason tries to reduce his son’s sentence by infiltrating the drug cartel.
As the film progresses in the story, I personally felt bad for everyone except the cartel members and the infuriating district attorney Joanne Keeghan. The district attorney was very self-centered and only helped out Johnson to get publicity and make herself look better.
The film was supposedly both a big action and comedy; it included physical conflict and emotional father-son scenes, but lacked comedy. The shoot out scenes only played out within the last 35 minutes or so in the film. The final freeway chase scene was laughably bad and unrealistic. For example; during the final chase scene there was one car that exploded due to hitting a medium block. The other cars just got flipped over more than seven times, killing the passengers relatively fast, finally Johnson’s vehicle flips over and he comes out somewhat okay. Despite the final chase, I must give it credit for not using computer generated graphics and an excessive amount of explosions to make the scene more dramatic than it already was.
“Snitch” has an interesting plot and intriguing characters that kept me engaged. This film also teaches about family values and that people will go to great lengths to help out the ones they truly love and care for.
