Senior Perrywinkles to compete against Perry staff members on April Fools

March 30, 2015

High School is all about making memories and making your mark as a Puma. Seniors Alli Messersmith and Jacob Morris plan to do just that in the hopes of starting a teachers versus seniors improv show as a tradition for Perry’s improv team, the Perrywinkles.

“It’s something that we’ve been wanting to do for a really long time and we finally get the chance to do it,” Messersmith says. “We are teaching Mr. DeGrow, Ms. Duering, Mr. Thorton, and Mr. Gomez several improv games and we’re going to run it like an actual show, like the normal Perrywinkles show you’re used to except it will be teachers versus students.”

Also in charge of this event, Jacob Morris has also been eager since last year to put on and participate in this show.

“We’ve wanted to do a show where we have the teachers and the Perrywinkles do a duo game,” Morris says. “We figured that having the game on April fools day this year, would give us the perfect opportunity to do so.”

These seniors are hopeful that this event will continue to take place in the  years to come, creating a fun experience not only for the Senior Perrywinkles, but also for the participating teachers and the audience.

“Last year when I was captain [of the Perrywinkles] with Ryan McGonagle, who graduated last year, he and I came up with the idea that this would be so much fun,” Messersmith explains. “Unfortunately, last year it didn’t really fit into the schedule, so we’re really excited that we get to make it happen this year. Hopefully it will start to be a tradition.”

English teacher Rhonda Duering shares her mixed emotions as well as her thoughts on participating in this competition.

“My initial reaction was super cocky like ‘yeah, bring it on!’ and now I’m thinking why did I say this, because I’ve seen them and they’re pretty good,” Duering states. “I hope there’s no twerking, I would rather lose.”

In planning this event, Messersmith and Morris had the task of electing four staff members to compete against the Senior Perrywinkles for this special event.

“There’s a lot of options we could have gone with, we know there are a lot of fun teachers across Perry,” Morris says. “But we came up with four teachers that we thought would work well together and also put on a good show, and everybody knows them for being really fun so we figured that they would be a great match for doing the show with us”

Come watch the Perrywinkles compete against some of your favorite teachers at Perry this Wednesday April 1 at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $3 at the door.
