Point/Counterpoint: Dutch Brothers on Val Vista

December 15, 2016

Dutch Brothers is the new rave for teens and adults in the community. With limited locations around the area, many are excited for the new arrival of a Dutch Bros on Val Vista off the 202, but is it going to be a blessing or a curse?

Not down for the Dutch rush

The newly popular Dutch Brothers that originated in Grants Pass, Oregon has taken over the lives of many East Valley residents here in Arizona.

Many obsess over their rebels, coffee, freezes, and monthly stickers. From Perry High School, the nearest Dutch Bros. is about 9.4 miles away in Downtown Gilbert.

With this being said, many teens wake up earlier to show up to school with Dutch Bros, or rush to the lines after school to fulfill their Dutch Bros. needs.

Having a Dutch Bros. in this area will be a hot commodity to the community by increasing their sales and offering a nearby location for local community members to attend, but how far are they willing to go for their business?

With the new arrival of Dutch Bros. on Val Vista road off the 202, it is inevitable that teens and adults in the vicinity will surge the area, causing long lines and busy roads.

The 202 freeway is less than half a mile south from the soon-to-be Dutch Bros. if the drive-thru line reaches the exit of the freeway on Val Vista due to everyone’s Dutch Bros. cravings there will be traffic jams down Val Vista road which has the potential to block people from getting off the 202 freeway causing safety and time consuming issues.

Having this addition to the community will spark a coffee morning thrill in the people to receive their daily needs of coffee and sugary drinks. However, if many feel the same way it will create traffic delays causing everyone to have a postponed morning.

To decrease the chances of the daily traffic jams, Dutch Bros. needs to make accommodations to their building style. The location in Downtown Gilbert is very small with very a short drive-thru lane that overflows on to Gilbert road causing traffic for people who are not in line.

For the new location on Val Vista, the Dutch Bros. owners and operators should increase the size of their parking lot and include a drive-thru lane that wraps around the building to decrease the chances of unfortunate traffic jams.

Pro’s of Dutch Bros

For many years now, the residents of Gilbert, Arizona have been obsessed with Dutch Bros so much that they are willing to drive up to 10 miles to pay about $5 for a cup of coffee. Although Dutch Bros is cheap and tasty, many customers are annoyed at the fact that it is so far from where they live.

Last week, it was announced that a new Dutch Bros is going to be built on Val Vista and Mercy Drive. Many people are happy about this, yet some are disgusted at the idea. A new Dutch Bros is a great idea, since a lot of local students and adults will be visiting daily to purchase their warm cup o’ joe.

Dutch Bros will be so popular, they’ll be ringing up stacks and stacks of money, which they end up donating to families in need, as they have done in the past.

The negatives of a new Dutch Bros being built is the traffic, and how it affects the families living in Gilbert. When the new Dutch Bros is built, there’s bound to be loads of traffic. Since it will be built right near the entrance and exit of the 202, the lines to turn right onto Val Vista will already be long, and if the Dutch Bros is built similarly as the one on Gilbert road now, it might not be practical. However, it will be nice to not have to travel almost half hour to buy a cup of coffee. Instead, it will be as close as five minutes.

A pro to building the Dutch Bros in the area will be extremely beneficial to the company by increasing their sales. Not only will it offer a nearby location for local families to attend, it will please those of us who are in love with Dutch Bros and their delicious coffee that they have to offer.

Dutch Bros is an amazing, fun, and cool place to go hang out with friends and enjoy some wonderful coffee. Having one built even closer to community members will be very helpful for the growth of Dutch Bros.
