Q&A with Nightingale

Q: How many years have you been coaching football, and then specifically at Perry?

A: “Perry, 11 years and 31 overall.”

Q: This was your last year coaching, correct?

A: “That’s what they say.”

Q: Throughout your coaching experience, what memories have stood out to you?

A: “Well I started off at the varsity level for seven years, and then the JV for the last four. I just think different things with the young men, you know seeing big wins and seeing them excited, because I’ve been doing this a long time. I’m more excited seeing them excited, reaching goals that they didn’t they could attain and things like that.”

Q: What has been your favorite part of coaching?

A: “Seeing them do things that they didn’t think they could do, beating teams they didn’t think they could beat. Being better than they ever thought they could be.”

Q: Did you play football in high school?

A: “I played high school and small college football. I played quarterback and defensive back.”

Q: Last year JV went undefeated, what made that group succeed?

A: “I would talk more so about the group this year that went 6-2 that were 3-6 as freshman last year. They were a good team, they played well together, they had a lot of camaraderie, and they believed in each other. The group that went undefeated last year just had athletes and they were better than everybody.”

Q: What has your experience at Perry been like?

A: “It’s been great. I love teaching here, I love coaching here. It’s been a blast, I’ve had fun and made a lot of memories.”

Q: In your eleven years here, what do you think the players remember most about you?

A: “I was fair, that I coached the best for them. I think that I’ve always done what’s best for the young man, and I’ve always been there for the young man, whoever that might be, if they need to talk or whatever. I think I’ve just been one of those people that’s always been trying to make them better.”
