Our take

He was just extremely passionate about coaching and about making Perry a great place for girls basketball.

This coming year, the girls basketball team will undergo an enormous change: a new head coach. With the former coach Brock Kearsley having taken leave for uncertain reasons, a new coach has been selected to lead the team in next year’s season.

Coach Mike Curtis is the man that will take the position, and has had several years of past experience with coaching girls basketball. Principal Dan Serrano said, “He’s been a basketball coach for a while and… his schedule is free.”

Some of his experience includes serving as the head girls’ coach at Higley High School and was most recently working as the Assistant Varsity Head Coach at Corona del Sol. With Corona del Sol being one of the best girls basketball teams, many are excited to have an experienced and well-proved coach come to Perry.

Jennifer Burks said that one of the first things they noticed was that “he was just extremely passionate about coaching and about making Perry a great place for girls basketball.” With a coach that loves the sport as much as the girls do, the opportunity for growth as a team during next year’s season looks very bright.
